My Perfect Bedtime Routine before the Big Day

On the big day, everything has to be perfect, especially you. Not because there will be tons of people whose eyes will glued to you, but because it’s your big day, and you deserve to feel beautiful and look impeccable. Now, you’ve already had your perfect manicure one or two days before, and gotten a facial to replenish the skin and bring more radiance to it. Keep in mind that a facial should not be done the day before the wedding, as you never know how your skin will react to the treatment. Therefore, it should be done ten days prior. Now, let’s talk about the night before the big day. Your mind must be restless with pre-wedding jitters, so not only will a good and comprehensive routine help you get your mind off things and keep you busy, but it will also give you what you need most – a good night’s sleep.

Matters of cleanliness

You haven’t spent weeks on end pampering your skin just to leave everything to chance (and pollutants) the night before. Even if you haven’t been wearing any makeup, your skin is in need of a thorough cleanse. Don’t let oil and impurities build up during the night, and given that this is an amazing but also stressful time, it could result in a breakout, and that is the last thing you need. Depending on your skin type, go with either Tatcha deep cleanser for oily skin, or with something calming and nourishing like Cetaphil cleanser for dry skin. The evening calls for a double cleanse, so never underestimate the power of a good toner. You’ll be surprised with the amount of impurities on that cotton pad after you’re done. If you generally exfoliate your skin, do this step as well. However, stay away from exfoliators if you haven’t used them before – you don’t know whether they could cause irritation.

Plump up

Before taking the final skincare routine step, there is one thing that should not be forgotten at any cost, and that is lip-exfoliation. You want your lips (along with everything else) to look plump and flawless, particularly if you’ll be wearing a long-lasting lipstick, matte or not. You don’t want any little pumps and dead skin cells being accentuated after a coat of lipstick, so scrub to perfection. You can make your own or go with something tried and tested like Lush’s Vanilla Honey scrub. It’s gentle yet powerful and will make your lips kiss and photo ready.

Time to shine

One of the most powerful skin products of our time, one that always delivers results is the mighty serum. If your skincare routine has been lacking this almost miraculous product, it’s time to right this wrong. Serums contain an incredible amount of active ingredients, much larger than any moisturizer out there, and they serve to actively fight imperfections, discoloration, acne scars and even fight signs of aging. When it comes to picking the right serum, it’s best to stick with amazing natural beauty products, as this way you know what you get and there is no risk of skin irritation. Just pure natural ingredients bottled up to boost your radiance for the day on which you’ll need it most.

Be generous

After applying the serum, and letting it sink in for a little, lock things down with the best moisturizer there is. You probably have your go-to choice, but just in case you don’t, going with something that is a cult favorite like Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream is the best thing you can do. It’s deeply nourishing without being overwhelming. It gives the skin all the hydration that it needs, but doesn’t make it look or feel greasy.

Sweet dreams

Now that all the pampering and prepping has been done, it’s time to get a good night’s sleep, as according to doctors, beauty sleep is called that way for a reason - it is the closest thing to the fountain of youth. Aside from the beauty factor, you’ll need all the energy for the day ahead of you, so you truly need sleep, this night more than ever. The problem is tuning out all the worries about every little detail, not to mention the completely natural jitters. First, don’t over-caffeinate during the day. Exercise does wonders as it energizes you but also tires you enough to sleep well. Avoid your phone as it will only over-stimulate your brain and hinder sleep further. Taking a bath is always good, and so is doing yoga or simply meditating for a while. If all else fails, a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow and a boring book will definitely do the trick. Arm yourself with everything you’ve got, but get that mind quiet and rested. Happy wedding day, beautiful!
