Frank Ocean Makes History With Six Nominations
Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Gotye, and fun. are among other contenders for the 55th annual Grammy awards
The list for the 2013 Grammys has been revealed, and R&B artist Frank Ocean, who made headlines this summer by coming out publicly, is one of the nomination leaders, including three of the major categories: Best New Artist, Record Of The Year ("Thinkin Bout You"), and Album Of The Year (channel ORANGE).
It's an historical moment indeed, as Ocean is the first out, gay man to nominated for these awards. His other nominations include Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Short Form Music Video; all of which he is unquestionably the first member of the gay community to be nominated. His nominations come to six when you count his collaboration with Jay-Z and Kayne West's "No Church In The Wild."
In other Grammy news: Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, Kanye West, The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, and fun. join Ocean with six nominations each.
Australia's Gotye is nominated for three categories, including Record Of The Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Somebody That I Used To Know" with Kimbra.
For pop music: Kelly Clarkson has four nominations with Record, Song, and Best Pop Solo Performance for the empowering "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)," and Best Pop Vocal Album (Stronger). Pink is also up for Best Pop Album for The Truth About Love, and Taylor Swift gets three nominations, including Record Of The Year for "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." Carly Rae Jepsen managed to get two nominations for the infectious viral summer hit "Call Me Maybe," including Song Of The Year.
