With the SAG Award and Golden Globe nominations announced this week, award season is nigh. Between galas, film festivals, and worldwide promo tours for their nominated films, this year’s well-dressed contenders have been pulling out all the sartorial stops. SAG Award and Golden Globe nominee (and this week’s Beauty Essentials spotlight) Cate Blanchett stepped out in a strapless black Spring ’14 Givenchy jumpsuit with a loose, draped bodice at the For the Love of Cinema – IWC Gulf Filmmaker Award ceremony during the Dubai International Film Festival on Saturday. Amy Adams, who is also up for a Best Actress Golden Globe, chose a black Elie Saab Spring ’14 shift with sheer lace panels for the New York premiere of her film American Hustle, which received a Globe nomination of its own.
Rooney Mara, whose film Her is up for a Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, Golden Globe, attended the Oxfam Charity gala during the Dubai Film Festival in a custom white one-shouldered Lanvin gown with a sculptured peplum-like detail on the bodice from theResort ’14 collection. The same day, SAG Award nominee Claire Danes hosted the Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo, Norway, in an embroidered white linen Valentino Resort ’14 gown.
Hollywood newcomer Lupita Nyong’o received a Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe nom for her very first role in a full-length film, 12 Years a Slave, and has been topping best-dressed lists nearly every week of the press tour. On Wednesday, she took to the red carpet at the film’s Paris premiere in a sleeveless red sequined cocktail dress with sheer cutouts from Elie Saab’s Resort ’14 collection.
